PUPPETS IN THE DESERT is a practical investigation into the effects of somatic practices on the art of puppetry. It explores how somatic work, applied to both puppet and puppeteer, can unlock new depths of expression, enhance stage presence, and create new relationships between the three interconnected systems: puppet, puppeteer, and audience. The desert serves as an evocative metaphor for this exploration—a space of spiritual seeking, of silence, of stripping away. It reflects the condition of the performer, caught between accumulated knowledge and skills, and a thirst for something more essential.
The first phase of the project concluded in Ljubljana in January 2025 with an open workshop and a work demonstration. This phase was made possible with the support of the Culture Moves Europe mobility grant and JSKD.
